Description

Chicken and waffles, a beloved culinary fusion, presents a delightful dance of savory and sweet that tantalizes the taste buds and satisfies cravings. While the exact origins remain debated, this iconic dish is rumored to have emerged from the vibrant culinary scene of Harlem in the early 20th century. Today, it graces brunch tables across the nation, a testament to its enduring appeal.

Imagine a generous, golden-brown waffle, its surface a mosaic of crisp squares and fluffy depths. Upon this foundation rests a crown of fried chicken, each piece boasting a perfectly seasoned, crunchy exterior that gives way to juicy, tender meat within. The symphony of textures—the waffle's yielding softness against the chicken's satisfying crispness—is a treat in itself.

But the true magic lies in the marriage of flavors. A generous drizzle of maple syrup cascades over the ensemble, its sweet, amber nectar mingling with the savory notes of the chicken. This unexpected combination creates a harmonious balance that elevates the dish to new heights.

For those who prefer a less traditional approach, a creamy, savory sauce, perhaps with a mayonnaise base and blend of herbs and spices, can provide a delightful alternative, offering a tangy counterpoint to the richness of the fried chicken. Whether as a centerpiece for a festive brunch or a comforting indulgence on a lazy Sunday morning, chicken and waffles promises a culinary adventure. The contrasting flavors and textures create a playful experience that's both satisfying and unforgettable.

Prepare to be captivated by this enduring classic, a dish that celebrates the art of unexpected pairings and the joy of pure culinary delight. Feel free to experiment with different spice blends for the chicken, or infuse the waffle batter with cinnamon or vanilla for an extra touch of flavor. The possibilities are endless, allowing you to customize this dish to your personal preferences and create a truly unique and memorable dining experience.

Instructions

    1.
Choose chicken breast that has been cut into tenders or slice the chicken breast yourself. Add the chicken tenders to a bowl and season them with salt and pepper. Dust the tenders next with almond flour.
    2.
Prepare a breading station by whisking an egg in a small bowl. On a clean plate, combine the second amount of almond flour with paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Additionally, you need to fill a frying pan with at least 1-inch of avocado oil (this may be more than what is listed in the ingredients, but the excess won’t be consumed).
    3.
Begin heating the oil at medium heat while you bread the chicken strips. One at a time, dip a floured chicken strip into the egg. Let the egg drip off before you roll the chicken in the seasoned almond flour. Add the breaded chicken to the hot frying pan to cook.
    4.
Fry all the breaded chicken tenders until they are extra crispy all over as well as reach at least 165 F (80 C) on a meat thermometer. The almond flour may get dark in the oil, but it’s not burnt. After cooking all the chicken, make your waffle batter by whisking together the third amount of almond flour together with powdered erythritol and baking powder in a clean, large mixing bowl. Next, whisk egg, vanilla extract, and almond milk into the batter. Melt the butter and whisk this in as well.
    5.
You can choose between cooking your waffle in a pan on the stove or a waffle iron - both work. To cook the batter in a pan, spray a small pan liberally with pan spray. Heat the pan on medium-low heat before pouring in the waffle batter. Cook the batter similar to pancake batter - wait for the batter to bubble before you flip it over and finish cooking.
    6.
For serving, plate one large waffle with 2-3 fried chicken tenders. It is most delicious to add Keto maple syrup to your dish to complete the “chicken and waffles”. Check the introduction of the recipe to read more about how to find Keto maple syrup. Enjoy hot!
