Description

Imagine starting your day with a rustic, charming bacon and egg galette, perfectly sized for sharing—or indulging in all by yourself! This galette offers a delightful twist on the classic breakfast combination, presenting it in an elegant, open-faced pastry that's as pleasing to the eye as it is to the palate. The foundation of this savory treat is a buttery, flaky crust, baked to a beautiful golden brown.

Its subtly rich flavor provides the perfect counterpoint to the savory filling nestled within. Each bite delivers a satisfying textural contrast between the crisp pastry and the tender, yielding ingredients at its heart. At the center of the galette, smoky bacon crisps to perfection, its savory aroma permeating every corner of the dish.

The bacon's salty, umami-rich character is balanced by the creamy, luxurious yolk of a perfectly cooked egg. The egg, gently baked within the galette, boasts a velvety texture that enriches the overall experience. As you cut into it, the yolk oozes out, creating a natural sauce that binds all the components together.

Beyond bacon and egg, this galette invites a symphony of complementary flavors. Imagine incorporating a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper, its subtle heat enhancing the smokiness of the bacon. Perhaps a scattering of chives, their delicate oniony notes adding a fresh, vibrant element.

Or even a whisper of nutmeg, its warm, nutty fragrance lending a hint of complexity. This bacon and egg galette isn't just a meal; it's an experience. It's a dish that invites you to slow down, savor each bite, and appreciate the simple pleasures of good food.

Whether enjoyed as a leisurely breakfast, a satisfying lunch, or even a light dinner, it's a versatile and utterly delicious option that's sure to become a favorite. The rustic presentation makes it perfect for a casual brunch with friends, while the sophisticated flavors make it equally suitable for a more refined occasion. It’s a delightful way to elevate your everyday meal and turn it into something truly special.

Instructions

    1.
Have your ½ recipe of fathead dough already prepared. It should be cold for easy handling. Place it between 2 pieces of parchment or wax paper, and roll it out into a circle, 2-3 millimeters thick. Place it on a sheet tray lined with parchment paper.
    2.
Spread the ricotta in the center of the dough, leaving 2-3 inches of space around the edges. Sprinkle the salt and pepper over the ricotta and the dough.
    3.
Roughly chop Cooked Bacon into 1-bite pieces. Spread them over the ricotta. Then, begin folding the bare edges of the dough towards the center, overlapping slightly. Press any holes together. The center of the galette should be open.
    4.
Place the tray with the galette on it in the freezer until the dough is hard - about 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat an oven to 375 degrees.
    5.
Once the galette is ready to bake, melt the butter and brush it over the exposed edges of the dough that were folded over. Finally, crack the egg in the center of the galette so it covers the bacon and ricotta.
    6.
Bake the galette for 25-30 minutes, until the buttered edges are golden brown and the egg has cooked through.
    7.
Slice into 4 slices and enjoy!
