Description

Imagine a pizza crust that redefines indulgence, offering a delightful experience without compromise. This pizza crust boasts a subtly soft center that yields with each bite, beautifully contrasted by a satisfying crispness around the edges. It's a canvas designed to carry your favorite toppings, providing a foundation that's both flavorful and texturally exciting.

This pizza crust is naturally vegan, thoughtfully crafted with ingredients that cater to plant-based preferences. Coconut flour forms the base, lending a delicate sweetness and airy lightness, while ground flaxseed acts as a natural binder, ensuring the crust holds its shape and integrity. A touch of xanthan gum further enhances the binding, creating a stable and reliable structure.

Infused with the aromatic essence of dried oregano, this crust evokes the classic flavors of Italy, creating a familiar and comforting taste profile. Its subtle seasoning allows it to pair seamlessly with a variety of toppings, making it incredibly versatile in the kitchen. Once partially baked, the crust transforms into the perfect base for your culinary creations.

Consider layering it with sun-dried tomatoes, their concentrated sweetness balanced by the briny tang of olives and the earthy notes of artichoke hearts. This Mediterranean-inspired combination is a feast for the senses, offering a symphony of flavors and textures. For those who enjoy a cheesy element, a sprinkle of nutritional yeast adds a savory depth, mimicking the taste of cheese without any dairy.

The crust’s neutral flavor profile allows the toppings to truly shine, creating a harmonious balance of taste and texture in every slice. Whether you're sharing with friends or enjoying a personal pizza night, this pizza crust is a wonderful way to savor the joy of pizza while exploring new and exciting flavor combinations. It’s more than just a base; it’s an invitation to create, experiment, and indulge in a guilt-free culinary adventure.

Instructions

    1.
Add the coconut flour, ground flaxseed, salt, oregano, and xanthan gum to a mixing bowl. Mix together well until combined.
    2.
Add the olive oil and a little water to the bowl. Use your hands to start to bring the mixture together. Add a little more water until it is all fully incorporated and you have a dough consistency. Set aside for 10 minutes to rest and allow the flax and coconut flour to absorb all the water. If after this time the dough feels a little dry, add more water a little at a time until you have a smooth, shapeable dough.
    3.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut a large square of baking paper and lay it on a clean work surface. Turn the dough out into the middle of the paper. The dough should not be too sticky, so you can press it into your base shape with your hands, creating a circle about 1/4 inch thick. Alternatively place a second piece of baking paper over the top of the dough and use a rolling pin to roll into shape.
    4.
Carefully transfer the dough base, on the baking parchment, to a large oven tray. Place in the oven to bake for 10 minutes until lightly golden and starting to firm. After this time you can layer your base with your selected toppings, then return to the oven to cook for a further 5-10 minutes until your base and toppings are hot through.
