Description

Imagine a thick-cut cauliflower steak, transformed into a satisfying dish with a medley of classic pizza-inspired flavors. Each steak begins with a generous slice of cauliflower, roasted to tender perfection with slightly caramelized edges. This creates a firm yet yielding texture that holds up beautifully to its flavorful toppings.

The cauliflower's mild, subtly sweet flavor provides the perfect canvas for the vibrant ingredients that follow. First, a luscious layer of rich tomato sauce is spread across the surface, its tangy sweetness awakening the palate. Next comes a sprinkle of savory, briny olives, their salty bursts complementing the sweetness of the tomato.

Sliced mushrooms, tender and earthy, add a delicate umami note and a pleasing chewiness to the mix. These complementary flavors meld together, creating a symphony of taste reminiscent of a classic pizza, but with a healthy and innovative twist. The magic of this dish lies in the harmony of textures and tastes.

The firm, slightly crisp cauliflower provides a satisfying bite, while the soft toppings melt in your mouth, creating a delightful contrast. The roasted cauliflower has those slightly crispy edges, which adds an extra element of intrigue to the dish, while the tender mushrooms provide a meaty contrast that is delightful. This versatile dish is equally suited for a light lunch or a satisfying dinner.

It can be served alongside a simple salad of mixed greens with a light vinaigrette, or as a flavorful side dish to complement your favorite protein. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh herbs, such as basil or oregano, for an extra pop of flavor and visual appeal. This cauliflower steak is a delicious and wholesome way to enjoy the flavors of pizza in a creative and healthy way, making it a delightful addition to any meal.

Instructions

    1.
Slice the cauliflower into two even steaks, each about a half inch thick. Add to a pan of boiling water and simmer until the steaks are tender. Remove from the pan and pat dry.
    2.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over a low/medium heat. Finely slice the mushrooms and crush the garlic. Add to the pan and cook gently for a minute or two until just tender.
    3.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
    4.
Divide the tomato sauce evenly between the two cauliflower steaks and sprinkle over the Italian seasoning. Divide the garlic mushrooms between the two steaks.
    5.
Finely slice the olives and arrange over the mushrooms.
    6.
Transfer the cauliflower steaks to a shallow oven tray and bake for 8-10 minutes until the cauliflower starts to turn golden and is hot through.
