Description

Imagine sinking your teeth into a succulent turkey leg, its skin burnished to a deep, inviting golden brown. This isn't just any turkey leg; it's a culinary experience, perfect for a cozy Thanksgiving dinner or any special occasion that calls for a touch of indulgence. The magic begins with a generous basting of herb-infused butter, lending a rich, savory depth to the meat as it roasts.

The butter, infused with aromatic herbs, melts and mingles with the turkey's natural juices, creating a symphony of flavors that tantalize the taste buds. As the turkey roasts, tender red onions, nestled alongside, slowly caramelize, their sweetness providing a delightful counterpoint to the savory turkey. The onions become meltingly soft, their layers infused with the buttery, herbaceous essence of the roasting pan.

The aroma that fills your kitchen is simply intoxicating – a warm, inviting blend of roasted poultry, sweet onions, and fragrant herbs. The result is a turkey leg that is both visually stunning and incredibly delicious. The skin is crispy and flavorful, while the meat beneath is incredibly tender and juicy, practically falling off the bone.

Each bite is an explosion of flavor – the savory turkey, the sweet onions, and the rich, buttery herbs all working together in perfect harmony. This melt-in-your-mouth turkey is delicious served alongside all your favorite sides. Alternatively, once cooled slightly, the meat can be easily pulled from the bone, perfect for creating flavorful sandwich fillings.

Imagine the possibilities: piled high on toasted bread with a smear of cranberry sauce or tucked into a warm pita pocket with crisp lettuce and a dollop of creamy dressing. Whether enjoyed as a centerpiece for a holiday feast or transformed into a satisfying everyday meal, this herb-buttered turkey leg is sure to impress. It’s a delightful way to elevate a simple cut of meat into something truly extraordinary.

Instructions

    1.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Bring the butter to room temperature so that it is soft enough to mash. Finely chop the sage and add to the bowl with the softened butter. Add the orange juice, orange zest, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mash together well to combine, creating a thick paste.
    2.
Roughly chop the onion. Place the turkey leg on an oven tray and pat dry. Arrange the onion pieces around the turkey leg.
    3.
Gently loosen the skin of the turkey leg. Place half of the butter underneath the skin and flatten down. Rub some of the remaining butter over the top of the skin and sit the rest around the tray. Add the chicken stock to the tray. You may use an alternative stock such as vegetable if preferred.
    4.
Transfer to the oven and roast for 1 hour and 15 minutes, occasionally basting with the butter during cooking. The turkey should be entirely cooked through and piping hot in the center, with clear juices. Cook for longer if required. You may also add a little extra stock to the tray if needed.
    5.
Serve the turkey leg hot. Carve into slices and drizzle over some of the orange and sage butter sauce. Serve with your favorite Keto Thanksgiving sides.
