Description

This innovative take on the classic sloppy joe transforms it from a carb-heavy indulgence into a satisfying and wholesome meal. Imagine a bed of creamy, mashed cauliflower, its subtle sweetness providing a delightful counterpoint to the rich and savory sloppy joe filling. This isn't just a side; it's the foundation upon which a comforting and flavorful experience is built.

The cauliflower, prepared to a velvety smooth consistency, offers a textural contrast to the hearty meat mixture, making each bite a dynamic interplay of sensations. The star of the show, the sloppy joe filling, is a symphony of ground meat simmered in a tangy and slightly sweet tomato-based sauce. Onions and peppers, finely diced and softened, contribute depth and complexity to the sauce, infusing it with aromatic notes that tantalize the senses.

The careful balance of seasonings elevates the flavors, creating a harmonious blend that is both familiar and exciting. The meat, tender and juicy, readily absorbs the flavors of the sauce, ensuring every mouthful is bursting with taste. The sauce clings lovingly to the meat, creating that signature "sloppy" texture that is both endearing and utterly craveable.

Finally, a generous blanket of melted cheese drapes over the entire creation, its gooey warmth melding all the elements together. The cheese, chosen for its melting properties and mild flavor, adds a layer of richness and indulgence that elevates the dish to new heights. As it melts, it forms a beautiful golden crust, adding a visual appeal that is as enticing as the aroma that wafts from the plate.

The melted cheese not only enhances the flavor profile but also acts as a binder, holding the meat and cauliflower together in a cohesive and satisfying whole. This reimagined sloppy joe is a testament to the fact that comfort food can be both delicious and nourishing, offering a guilt-free way to enjoy a beloved classic. It’s a hearty, flavorful, and satisfying meal that is perfect for a cozy night in or a casual gathering with friends and family.

Instructions

    1.
Preheat an oven to 375 degrees. Cut the cauliflower into small florets and toss with the first amount of olive oil. Arrange across either a seasoned sheet tray or a tray lined with parchment paper. Bake the tray for 35-40 minutes, tossing the cauliflower halfway through.
    2.
While the cauliflower is baking, cook the ground sirloin with the second amount of olive oil, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, and cayenne in a pot over medium heat. Cook until the meat is browned and the seasoning is fragrant.
    3.
Turn the heat to low and stir in the tomato paste and beef broth. Place a lid on the pot and bring the pot to a simmer. Then, remove from the stove and set aside for later.
    4.
When the cauliflower is done, transfer to a food processor. Pulse until blended to a firm mash with the salt, pepper, garlic clove, onion powder, heavy cream, and first amount of butter.
    5.
Turn the oven heat down to 350 degrees. Spread the cauliflower mash in the base of a standard 9x13 glass baking dish. Spoon the sloppy joe filling over the mash. Then arrange the shredded cheese on top.
    6.
Bake the dish in the oven openly for 10 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt and fir everything to heat through. Divide into 6 portions and serve with a spatula.
