Description

Imagine sinking your teeth into a drumstick that offers a symphony of flavors. These baked chicken drumsticks achieve the ideal equilibrium of sweetness, savory depth, and a gentle, tantalizing heat. The secret lies in the preparation: the drumsticks are immersed in a vibrant marinade, allowing the flavors to penetrate deeply into the meat, ensuring each bite is infused with deliciousness.

The star of the show is a luscious coating crafted around a fermented chili paste. This sauce, rich and complex, is carefully brushed over the marinated chicken, creating a beautiful, glossy glaze. As the drumsticks bake, the sauce caramelizes, transforming into a sticky, irresistible layer that clings to the chicken.

The aroma alone is enough to make your mouth water. The baking process is key to achieving both a crispy exterior and a juicy interior. The chicken is cooked to perfection, ensuring the meat is tender and succulent, practically falling off the bone.

The glaze intensifies, its sweet and spicy notes becoming more pronounced, creating a delightful contrast with the savory chicken. Visually, the drumsticks are stunning – a deep, reddish-brown hue with glistening highlights. These drumsticks are not just a meal; they're an experience.

Serve them as a crowd-pleasing appetizer, a flavorful main course, or a unique addition to your next gathering. Pair them with a side of fluffy rice, a crisp salad, or your favorite roasted vegetables for a complete and satisfying meal. Whether you're a seasoned cook or a novice in the kitchen, this recipe is straightforward and rewarding.

Prepare to be amazed by the depth of flavor and the simplicity of the process. These Gochujang Baked Chicken Drumsticks are destined to become a regular feature on your dining table, offering a delightful culinary adventure with every bite.

Instructions

    1.
The day before you plan to bake the drumsticks, grate a yellow onion into a large mixing bowl. Add minced garlic to the onion.
    2.
Place the whole drumsticks in the mixing bowl with the onion and garlic. Add salt and pepper. Toss the drumsticks with the onion and seasonings until they are evenly coated. Transfer the drumsticks to a large ziploc bag, scraping any remaining grated onion into the bag. Seal and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours, or preferably overnight.
    3.
On the day of baking, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). In a separate bowl, combine the remaining ingredients (gochujang, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, etc.) to create the gochujang sauce. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
    4.
Line a sheet tray with foil and place a baking rack over the tray. Arrange the marinated drumsticks on the baking rack, ensuring they are not overcrowded. If there is any loose onion remaining in the ziploc bag, stir it into the gochujang sauce. Use a marinade brush to generously brush the sauce over each drumstick, flipping them over on the rack to ensure each one is fully coated. Reserve any remaining sauce for later basting.
    5.
Bake the drumsticks on a middle rack in your preheated oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the drumsticks from the oven.
    6.
Brush another layer of gochujang sauce over the drumsticks without flipping them over. Return the drumsticks to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
    7.
Remove the drumsticks from the oven once more and brush on the remaining sauce for a final layer of flavor. Bake once more for 15 minutes. At this point, you may continue baking for a longer period, at your discretion, to achieve a crispier, darker skin.
