Description

Imagine plump, juicy jumbo shrimp transformed into a culinary delight, each one enveloped in a delicate sesame-almond crust. Pan-fried to a perfect golden crisp, these shrimp offer a satisfying crunch that gives way to the tender sweetness of the seafood within. The coating, a blend of finely ground almonds and sesame seeds, provides a nutty and aromatic counterpoint to the shrimp's natural flavor.

Before meeting the pan, each shrimp is gently bathed in beaten egg, ensuring the seasoned crumb adheres beautifully, creating a uniformly textured and flavorful crust. The magic happens in the pan, where the shrimp are carefully fried in batches, achieving that coveted extra-crispy coating. The result is a symphony of textures – the delightful snap of the crust, the succulent tenderness of the shrimp – all harmonizing in each bite.

The accompanying dipping sauce, a tangy tahini creation, adds another layer of complexity to the dish. Its creamy richness and bright acidity complement the savory shrimp, creating a balanced and irresistible combination. These crispy shrimp are incredibly versatile.

They make an elegant appetizer for sharing, a satisfying component of a light lunch, or a delightful main course when paired with your favorite sides. Consider serving them with a bed of fluffy cauliflower rice or a vibrant Asian-inspired slaw. For a more substantial meal, accompany them with a portion of egg-style rice or a medley of stir-fried vegetables.

These sesame-almond crusted shrimp are a delightful treat that will surely impress. The contrasting textures and harmonious flavors make them a standout dish, perfect for any occasion.

Instructions

    1.
Crack the egg into a small bowl. Beat until smooth and well combined. Add the shrimp to a separate bowl. Add the ground almonds, sesame seeds, garlic powder, salt and pepper to a third bowl. Stir the seeds, ground almonds and seasoning together well to combine. This will create your shrimp breading mix.
    2.
Take one jumbo shrimp at a time and dip it in the beaten egg so that it is well coated all over. Then dip the egg coated shrimp into the breading mixture so that it is liberally coated all over in the sesame crumb. Repeat this process with the remaining shrimp until they are all coated in a layer of egg and breading.
    3.
Heat two tablespoons of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over a medium/high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the prepared shrimp to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes each side or until piping hot through and the crumb is golden brown all over. You may need to work in two batches depending on the size of your skillet. You may also add a little extra oil if needed for frying.
    4.
Add the remaining olive oil, tahini, lemon juice, tamari sauce and a pinch of black pepper to a small bowl. Whisk until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust seasonings as required, adjusting your macros accordingly. Serve the tahini sauce with your cooked shrimp for dipping.
