Description

Imagine a comforting casserole that captures the essence of a classic cheeseburger in a warm, satisfying dish. This recipe begins with a hearty foundation of crispy bacon, its smoky aroma weaving through every layer. Nestled within the bacon's embrace is a savory chicken mixture, seasoned to perfection, offering a juicy and flavorful counterpoint to the salty bacon.

But the experience doesn't stop there. Piled high upon the chicken are all the familiar fixings of your favorite cheeseburger. Picture diced tomatoes, their bright acidity cutting through the richness, and crisp lettuce, offering a refreshing textural contrast.

Perhaps a scattering of dill pickle relish, its tangy sweetness adding a delightful zing. And, of course, no cheeseburger-inspired creation is complete without a generous blanket of melted cheese. A thick layer of cheddar drapes the toppings, its sharp, creamy flavor melding seamlessly with the other ingredients.

As the casserole bakes, the cheese bubbles and browns, creating a golden crust that is as visually appealing as it is delicious. This casserole is easy to slice and serve, making it a perfect choice for a family dinner or a potluck gathering. Pair it with a simple side salad or steamed vegetables for a complete and balanced meal.

The versatility of this dish allows for endless customization. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheeses – perhaps a sharp provolone or a smoky gouda. Add your preferred cheeseburger toppings, such as sauteed mushrooms or jalapenos, to create your own signature variation.

Consider it for meal prepping, as its flavors meld together even more beautifully overnight. This baked dish is a symphony of flavors and textures, a comforting and crowd-pleasing dish that brings the taste of a classic cheeseburger to your table in a whole new way.

Instructions

    1.
Turn on an oven to preheat to 375 degrees and spray a glass 7x5 baking dish with pan spray. Line the dish with raw slices of bacon by beginning at the left corner and working to the right. When starting on the left side, alternate slices of bacon laying vertically and horizontally, leaving the ends of bacon slightly hanging over the edge of the dish. As you reach the right side of the dish, begin alternating strips of bacon both vertically and horizontally on that side as well. Set the dish aside once the bacon is layered.
    2.
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, salt, pepper, mustard powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and paprika. Once the meat mixture is combined, place it into the bacon-lined dish, and spread it in an even layer to all four corners. Don In a clean bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. Spread the sauce across the top of the ground chicken burger filling.
    3.
Sprinkle a bed of shredded lettuce over the sauce, followed by thin slices of tomato. Take the bacon ends that were hanging over the edges of the dish, and fold them over the top of the casserole. You can overlap the corner pieces of bacon to help reinforce the casserole. Finally, sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the entire top of the casserole. Make sure you also cover the bacon ends to keep them from popping up during baking.
    4.
Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake the dish for 30 minutes, then uncover the dish. Bake for another 30 minutes, uncovered, until the casserole is done. There will be some overall shrinkage of the casserole, and the cheese will be melted and golden across the top. If there is excess liquid in the dish that hasn yield 6 slices.
