Description

Imagine starting your day with a warm, savory waffle that's both satisfying and convenient. These cheese waffles, crafted with a simple batter of eggs and mozzarella, offer a delightful twist on the classic breakfast staple. The batter transforms into a golden, crispy waffle, providing a unique textural experience.

Each bite delivers a burst of cheesy flavor, perfectly balanced with a hint of saltiness. What sets these waffles apart is the addition of thinly sliced prosciutto. Nestled atop the cheesy base, the prosciutto adds a layer of rich, meaty flavor that elevates the waffle to a new level of deliciousness.

The combination of crispy waffle, melted mozzarella, and savory prosciutto creates a symphony of flavors and textures that's hard to resist. The saltiness of the cured meat complements the mildness of the cheese, while the crispness of the waffle provides a satisfying crunch. For those who enjoy a sweet and savory combination, a drizzle of maple syrup adds a touch of sweetness that balances the salty and savory elements beautifully.

The waffles are incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed any time of day. They are perfect as a grab-and-go breakfast, a satisfying lunch, or even a light dinner. Their compact size makes them easy to handle and enjoy on the move.

These waffles are also freezer-friendly, making them ideal for meal prepping. Simply prepare a batch, allow them to cool, and then store them in a freezer bag. When you're ready to enjoy, a quick toast or microwave is all it takes to bring them back to their warm, crispy glory.

Feel free to experiment with different types of cured meats to customize the flavor to your liking. Coppa, salami, or soppressata would all make excellent additions. Just be sure to trim the meat to fit the size of your waffle iron for even cooking and optimal flavor distribution.

Using high-quality eggs contributes to the overall richness and flavor of the waffles. Their vibrant yolks add color and depth to the batter, resulting in a more flavorful and satisfying final product. Whether you're looking for a protein-packed breakfast or a savory snack, these cheese waffles with prosciutto are sure to please.

Instructions

    1.
To begin, plug in a mini waffle iron and allow it to come up to temperature while you prepare the waffle batter.
    2.
Blend the eggs and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese together with an immersion blender or mini food processor until smooth. Have the prosciutto at hand ready to go as well as the butter which has been melted in a small bowl. The prosciutto will need to be cut in half.
    3.
Brush the waffle iron with little butter using a silicone brush.
    4.
Sprinkle about one teaspoon of the remaining mozzarella cheese onto the waffle iron.
    5.
Pour on enough batter to barely cover the iron. Remember when the lid closes the batter will spread.
    6.
Top the batter with a half piece of prosciutto and another sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
    7.
Close the waffle iron and allow it to cook for 2 minutes.
    8.
Remove the waffle from the iron and repeat this process six more times.
