Description

This recipe provides a satisfying and flavorful option for a main course, ideal for preparing meals in advance or serving a family dinner. In about an hour, you can have a delectable, cheese-stuffed meatloaf roll ready to enjoy. It offers a delightful twist on the familiar comfort food.

The base of this dish is ground beef, preferably lean, which is seasoned generously with a blend of savory herbs and spices. Think garlic powder, onion powder, perhaps a touch of smoked paprika for depth, and definitely salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance the natural flavors of the meat. The seasoning should be robust enough to stand up to the richness of the cheese and the tanginess of the sauce.

The seasoned ground beef is then carefully flattened into a thin, even layer, creating a perfect canvas for the cheesy filling. Sharp cheddar cheese is the classic choice, its bold flavor complementing the savory meat beautifully. You could also explore other options like Monterey Jack for a milder, creamier taste, or a blend of cheeses for added complexity.

The cheese is generously spread over the meat, ensuring every slice of the roll will be filled with molten, cheesy goodness. The meat is then carefully rolled up, encasing the cheese within. The roll is formed tightly and evenly, creating a log shape that will slice beautifully after baking.

The outside of the meatloaf roll is coated with a tangy glaze, typically a mixture of ketchup, brown sugar, and a touch of vinegar or mustard. This glaze caramelizes in the oven, creating a sticky, sweet, and slightly acidic crust that contrasts wonderfully with the savory meat and cheese within. As the meatloaf roll bakes, the aroma that fills your kitchen is simply irresistible.

The meat becomes tender and juicy, the cheese melts into a gooey river of flavor, and the glaze transforms into a glistening, flavorful coating. Once baked to perfection, the meatloaf roll is allowed to rest for a few minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring each slice is moist and flavorful.

Slices of the meatloaf roll reveal a beautiful spiral of seasoned meat and melted cheese, topped with that irresistible tangy glaze. The texture is a delightful combination of tender meat, gooey cheese, and a slightly crisp exterior. Serve this meatloaf roll with your favorite side dishes, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a simple green salad, for a complete and satisfying meal.

Its a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that offers a delightful change from the ordinary.

Instructions

    1.
Preheat an oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, mix together the ground sirloin, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, nutmeg, and paprika.
    2.
On a sheet of parchment paper, spread the meat out into a thin rectangle approx. 10x6 inches. Arrange the cheddar cheese in the center of the meat, leaving a 2 inch bare edge all around.
    3.
Use the parchment paper to roll the meatloaf up into a tight roll. Use your fingers to press the meat together to seal both ends as well as the seam under the roll. Lay the roll in a loaf pan lined with pan spray, seamside down.
    4.
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and dijon. Use a marinade brush to spread the sauce over the top and sides of your meatloaf roll.
    5.
Bake the roll for 50 minutes. The meatloaf will be medium-well to well-done and the sauce on top will have a light crust to it.
    6.
Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing into 4 pieces.
