Description

Imagine a warm, golden orb of cheese, its surface gently browned and yielding to the touch. This whole baked delight offers an experience that's both comforting and sophisticated. As you break through the slightly firm exterior, a molten river of creamy cheese flows forth, rich and inviting.

The aroma is intoxicating – a blend of earthy cheese notes mingling with the sweet, mellow fragrance of caramelized onions. These onions, slow-cooked to a deep golden hue, provide a counterpoint to the cheese's richness, their sweetness enhancing the overall flavor profile. Scattered across the top are toasted pecans, adding a delightful textural contrast.

Their nutty crunch provides a welcome interruption to the smooth, velvety cheese and soft onions. The pecans are toasted to perfection, releasing their inherent oils and intensifying their flavor, lending another layer of depth to the dish. This baked cheese is incredibly versatile.

Served as a luxurious lunch, it transforms a simple midday meal into a special occasion. As a snack, it offers a moment of pure indulgence, a chance to savor a truly exceptional treat. And as an appetizer, it is guaranteed to impress, setting the stage for a memorable dinner party.

Imagine serving this bubbling beauty with crusty bread, its warm interior begging to be spread. Each bite is an explosion of flavors and textures, a symphony of creamy, sweet, and nutty sensations. It’s a dish that invites sharing, encouraging conversation and creating a sense of warmth and togetherness.

Whether enjoyed alone as a personal indulgence or shared amongst friends, this baked cheese is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. It is a culinary experience that elevates simple ingredients to something truly extraordinary, a testament to the power of simple, well-prepared food.

Instructions

    1.
Preheat the oven to 360 degrees Fahrenheit (182 degrees Celsius).
    2.
Remove the Camembert from its packaging. Carefully slice off the top rind with a sharp knife. Return the cheese to the box and score the top in a criss-cross pattern.
    3.
Thinly slice the garlic and finely chop the rosemary leaves. Insert the garlic slices and rosemary into the scores on top of the cheese.
    4.
Place the boxed cheese directly onto a shelf in the middle of the preheated oven. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and gooey.
    5.
While the cheese is baking, prepare the caramelized onions. In a frying pan over low-medium heat, combine the sliced onion, oil, vinegar, and xylitol (or sugar). Cook gently, stirring frequently, until the onions are sticky, sweet, and deeply caramelized, about 20 minutes.
    6.
Once the cheese is baked, remove it from the oven. Top with the caramelized onions and sprinkle generously with crushed pecans. Serve immediately with crusty bread or crackers.
