Description

Imagine biting into perfectly crisp, caramelized shrimp, each piece bursting with intense savory flavors. This salt and pepper shrimp recipe transforms simple ingredients into an addictive culinary experience. Succulent, shell-on shrimp are the star, offering a delightful contrast between the tender meat and the crunchy, seasoned exterior.

The key to this dish lies in achieving that coveted crispiness, especially if you plan to enjoy the entire shrimp, shell and all. When prepared correctly, the shells become a textural delight, adding a unique dimension to the dish. The shrimp are generously coated in a mixture of salt and pepper, creating a bold foundation of flavor.

This is then enhanced by a caramelized pepper and garlic mixture, infusing the shrimp with a deep, aromatic richness. The result is a symphony of tastes and textures that will leave you craving more. The shells become delicately crispy, providing a satisfying crunch that complements the juicy shrimp inside.

These shrimp are fantastic on their own as an appetizer or snack, but also pair beautifully with a variety of accompaniments. Consider serving them over fluffy cauliflower rice for a light and satisfying meal. For those who prefer a starchier base, rice makes an excellent addition.

For best results, use shell-on shrimp around 21-count per pound. This size offers a good balance of meatiness and shell surface area, ensuring optimal flavor and texture. If using smaller shrimp, adjust the cooking time accordingly to prevent overcooking.

Kosher salt or flaky sea salt are recommended to enhance the overall flavor profile. To revive leftover shrimp, simply reheat them until hot, ensuring the shells regain their desired crispiness. Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors and textures in this irresistible salt and pepper shrimp recipe.

Instructions

    1.
Add avocado oil into the air fryer basket with no rack inserted into the bottom of it. Heat at 400 F for 2 minutes.
    2.
Add in the minced garlic cloves and diced, seeded poblano. Heat at 400 F for 5 minutes.
    3.
Remove the basket and stir the garlic mixture with a spoon. Heat again at 400 F for 3 minutes, stirring halfway through. The garlic should be nicely browned. Remove the garlic mixture to a bowl.
    4.
Devein the shrimp with a pairing knife.
    5.
Mix the salt and pepper in a small bowl.
    6.
Add the shrimp into the basket. Cook at 400 F and set the air fryer for 10 minutes. After 3-4 minutes, add in the salt and pepper mixture.
    7.
The shrimp should be pink at this point. After about 7 minutes, drain any liquid from the shrimp and continue to cook for the rest of the time.
    8.
If the shrimp shells look soft still, cook the shrimp for an additional 3-4 minutes to crisp up the shell.
    9.
Once the shrimp is cooked, toss the garlic mixture into the shrimp. Taste and adjust, adding more salt and pepper as desired. Serve immediately.
