Description

Imagine golden florets of cauliflower, each bite offering a delightful contrast between tender interior and subtly crisp exterior. This air fryer cauliflower recipe transforms a humble vegetable into a truly crave-worthy side dish, perfect for complementing a wide range of meals. The preparation begins by gently coaxing the cauliflower to its peak tenderness.

Diced into bite-sized pieces, the florets are briefly boiled until they reach that perfect 'fork-tender' stage, ensuring they are ready to absorb all the wonderful flavors that await. The magic truly happens when the cauliflower is enveloped in a rich, homemade barbecue-inspired sauce. This luscious coating is crafted from a base of smooth tomato sauce, deepened by the umami notes of tamari, and infused with a symphony of aromatic spices.

Smoky paprika provides a captivating depth, while earthy cumin adds a warm, grounding element. A touch of garlic powder contributes a savory edge, beautifully balanced by the subtle sweetness of cinnamon. A whisper of mustard powder provides a tangy counterpoint, lifting the entire flavor profile.

Once coated, the cauliflower is ready for its turn in the air fryer. As the hot air circulates, the florets transform. The sugars in the sauce begin to caramelize, creating a beautiful golden glaze that is both visually appealing and incredibly flavorful.

The edges of the cauliflower become delightfully crisp, adding a satisfying textural element to each bite. The result is a symphony of flavors and textures that will leave you wanting more. The tender cauliflower, infused with smoky, sweet, and savory notes, is perfectly balanced by its crisp, golden exterior.

This side dish is an ideal addition to any dinner table, bringing a touch of excitement and innovation to your everyday meals. Whether served alongside grilled proteins, roasted vegetables, or enjoyed as a snack on its own, this air fryer cauliflower is sure to become a new favorite.

Instructions

    1.
Add the cauliflower florets to a small pan of boiling water. Simmer for 4-5 minutes until fork tender. Drain away the water and set aside to steam dry.
    2.
Whilst the cauliflower dries you can prepare the BBQ sauce. Add the passata (tomato sauce), tamari sauce, syrup, paprika, garlic powder, cumin, cinnamon, mustard and olive oil to a small bowl. Stir together well to combine.
    3.
Add the par cooked cauliflower to a large bowl. Spoon over the BBQ sauce. Stir everything together well to combine, so that the cauliflower is evenly coated in the marinade.
    4.
Arrange the cauliflower in the base of the air fryer basket. Ensure the cauliflower florets are in an even layer to ensure they all cook through. Set the basket in the air fryer.
    5.
Set the temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and set the timer for 10 minutes. After this time, turn the cauliflower pieces over. Set the timer to cook for a further 8 minutes. The cauliflower should be tender in the center and crisp and golden at the edges.
